Choosing Post-Mastectomy Swimwear: A Recommendation

We were keen to share this review from one of our customers who has recently been through a mastectomy and breast reconstruction. We hope that it brings inspiration to all women who have gone through the trauma and frightening times of breast cancer and surgery.  Bikini shopping is daunting at the best of times, but planning your holiday beachwear after breast surgery is even more daunting as where do you start?  Our customer was not ready to accept that her bikini days were over, so we sent her a selection of different styles to try and hope that her feedback will be helpful to ladies in a similar position.

I was very excited when I heard about Coco Bay and that they provided an array of different makes of bikinis especially Seafolly, which I had been recommended by another lady who had under gone breast surgery.

I am a 40 year old lady who has always worn bikinis on holidays and after a recent mastectomy and reconstruction, I was looking for something that still made me feel attractive and that gave me confidence.

Out of a huge choice, I ended up choosing a white seafolly soft cap halter which also came in a variety of colours and a variety of different matching bikini bottoms.

I have found that after my reconstruction that I am now two slightly different sizes and shapes. This style of seafolly bikini tops have removeable padding which are very useful as I could remove the padding on the constructed side and add to the other side and no one would know.

For those  women who are concerned about the scarring, the majority of the Seafolly styles gave good coverage around the side but without feeling that you are covering yourself up.

The service and efficiency was perfect and I would highly recommend Coco Bay if you are finding yourself in a similar predicament.

  1. I too have had breast cancer and reconstruction. I discovered Coco Bay and seafolly by chance 4 years ago when I was looking for a white bikini. Since then I have always bought seafolly bikinis and have recommended CocoBay to my friends.

  2. Hi Sue, Thank you so much for your feedback and taking the time to comment. We realise it can be a tricky, yet very real subject for so many of us.
We are so pleased you found the site and have recommended us to your friends, it really is much appreciated! CB x

  3. I too have had breast cancer but chose not to go for reconstruction. I managed to source Seafolly swimwear adjusted for women, having undergone surgery, from a company called ‘about the girl’. Sadly no longer trading. Any chance someone could persuade Seafolly to produce a range of their swimwear with pockets for those of us who need to wear breast prothesis. There are companies out there that do mastectomy swimwear but nothing as stylish and colourful as Seafolly. I really do think there is a large demand out there from all of us survivors. Any entrepreneurs in Coco Bay who fancy the challenge. Seafolly have done it in the past – or allowed ‘about the girl’ to add to their design. The choice out there is still pretty woeful.

    1. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. You are certainly not alone in your frustrations at the lack of fun, well fitting swimwear with pockets for prothesis and we are very ready to take this challenge on. We will definitely discuss this with Seafolly and our other suppliers as a priority so we can hopefully include some beautiful post surgery swimwear in our collections in the very near future. We will let you know how we get on. In the meantime, please contact us if you have any questions. CBx

  4. I have recently had a mastectomy and reconstruction. Are your seafolly bikinis underwire free. They’re very stylish?
    Many thanks
